CHANCE AT GOAL
Chance at Goal is a program designed for players in low income households and communities to have more accessibility to youth soccer while, in turn, giving back to the community and growing in character. Chance at Goal has a youth-led Board of Directors made up of students and alumni from Harrison High School, and these students help lead community outreach events and the marketing for the program.
In the summer, the Chance at Goal Board runs free kickarounds at various parks on the southeast side of Colorado Springs, and we collect gently used soccer equipment to distribute to the neighborhood players that choose to join. The idea behind the kick rounds is to provide a safe, pressure-free environment for players to build community and a positive environment through soccer.
The players within the program are offered the chance to play club soccer, and on the competitive level, they are required to maintain a set of standards on and off of the field in order to continue participating.
We work with these players as they become young adults to build their resumes, assist with job hunting, and help with college applications and recruiting should they wish to continue playing in college. Post-secondary success and support is our ultimate goal for these players, and we use soccer as a vessel to help these players become as well rounded and as supported as possible.
The goal for this program is to expand statewide to other partner clubs and various communities throughout the state of Colorado.
